Tombstone’s Ballists Excel Playing for a Mixed 9 Team Against the Mesa Miners

MARICOPA, AZ TERRITORY, Jan. 31

Playing in with a Mixed Nine team made up from players from across Arizona, two Tombstone ballists made good yesterday. Wes “Commish” Abarca made a strong showing at the 3rd bag, while “The Reverend” Bill Jensen manned the first bag cleanly with many put outs. The Arizona Mixed Nine, know calling themselves the Abandoned Orphans of Arizona, led the powerhouse Mesa Miners for most of the match, until Mesa tied it up in the sixth. After a scoreless 7th inning, the two teams were not satisfied, and went into extra frames. In the bottom of the 8th, The Reverend made it to first base on a ground ball single.

He advanced to second on a single. Then soon, the bases were loaded. A line drive to left field could have been caught, but The Reverend wanted to end the game right then and there, and dashed home. The ball fell to the ground, Rev touched home and the Orphans walked off with the win.

Soon, the Commish and the Reverend will be playing on Fremont Street, representing the Town Too Tough to Die.

A Phoenix Senator smacks one.
Swinging for the fences.

And remember, you might not need one now. But when you do, think of H.M. Brislin.
